There are different types of vaccines available to prevent various diseases in cats. Vaccinating your cat every year is important not only for the cat’s protection but also for the safety of the cat owner. To ensure the well-being of your pet cat, take proper care and keep it vaccinated.
What is a Vaccine?
A vaccine is a preventive medicine that helps the cat’s body develop antibodies, enabling it to fight against harmful germs, viruses, and bacteria.
Why Should You Vaccinate Your Cat?
There are some fatal diseases in cats that can lead to death, and in such cases, no medicine works. Therefore, it’s important to vaccinate your cat before it gets sick. However, vaccines are not effective if the cat is already ill. Some diseases (like rabies) can even be transmitted to humans. So, vaccination is necessary to protect both the pet cat and its owner.
When Should You Vaccinate Your Cat?
Generally, cats should be vaccinated after they are 3 months old. Once vaccinated, the effect usually lasts for 1 year (although the duration may vary depending on the vaccine). Therefore, cats need to be vaccinated every year.
What Vaccines Should Cats Get?
There are many types of vaccines. However, three vaccines are most commonly given in Bangladesh:
1. Nobivac® Feline 1-HCPCh
The Nobivac vaccine protects cats from four life-threatening viral and bacterial diseases. It is easily available in Bangladesh and is highly beneficial for cats. This vaccine prevents the following diseases:
- Feline Calicivirus (FCV) (Cat flu)
- Feline Rhinotracheitis (Pneumonia and Influenza)
- Feline Panleukopenia (FPV)
- Feline Chlamydophila
2. RABISIN®
Rabies is a deadly and highly contagious disease in cats. The Rabisin vaccine protects cats from rabies. It comes in different durations: 3 years, 1 year, or 6 months.
3. Quadricat®
The Quadricat vaccine protects cats from Calicivirus, Rhinotracheitis, Panleukopenia, and Rabies.

Where Are Vaccines Given?
Almost all veterinarians administer vaccines for cats. You can find a familiar vet and take your cat for vaccination. The cost of different vaccines varies. Different vets may charge different prices for vaccinations.
Are There Any Side Effects of Vaccines?
Generally, there are no side effects. However, some cats may experience mild symptoms for a day or two, such as itching, drowsiness, loss of appetite, or vomiting. If these symptoms persist for longer, you should consult a vet.
